Customs clearance assistance
We offer professional advice to guide you through the import customs procedures of the UK Customs.

1. Related to items
- Prohibited and items to be declared: It is strictly forbidden to bring fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh meat and meat products, plants and plant seeds, etc. Items such as tea, traditional Chinese medicine, sausages and honey must be declared.
- Service life of items: Personal items and personal property that have been used for more than 12 months can enjoy tax exemption when brought back to New Zealand. New items are subject to a 5% customs duty and a 15% consumption value-added tax.
2. Document preparation
- Please provide copies of your passport and other relevant documents, the English version of the packing list and the ocean bill of lading.
- The New Zealand Unaccompanied Personal Baggage Declaration form must also be completed. If there is non-wooden packaging, a non-wooden packaging declaration must be provided. Special permits or quotas may be required, such as for the import of ivory products, etc.
3. Customs clearance process
- Prior declaration: The New Zealand customs implements a prior declaration system. All commercial documents must be provided to the customs before the goods arrive.
- Subject to inspection: All imported personal items must undergo physical inspection by customs and inspection by the New Zealand Department of Agriculture and Forestry Services. If the packaging of the items is not intact, fumigation may be required.
4. Others
- Cash and tobacco and alcohol: Cash under NZ $10,000 does not need to be declared, but more than that must be declared. The duty-free tobacco limit is 50 cigarettes or 50 grams of tobacco products, and the duty-free alcohol limit is 4.5 liters of wine or beer and 1.125 liters of spirits or liqueur.
- Policy Changes: The customs regulations of New Zealand may change. Before sending items, it is necessary to understand the latest import regulations and restrictions.

The unique permanent re-entry visa: The New Zealand green card is also known as the "permanent re-entry visa", which is a true permanent green card. As long as it is not a major crime, the status will never become invalid.

- Personnel status and residence requirements: New Zealand citizens or non-New Zealand citizens with long-term residence visas or permanent residence visas who have resided outside New Zealand for 21 months or more and then return to New Zealand for permanent residence can enjoy tax exemption policies for the import customs clearance of their personal items.
- Requirements for items: The items must be for personal use within a reasonable range and have been owned for more than six months. They must not be used for commercial purposes or sold. Personal items and property that have been used for more than 12 months and are brought back to New Zealand are tax-free. However, brand-new items are subject to a 5% customs duty and a 15% value-added tax on consumption. When the items you are consigning arrive in New Zealand, if you have been residing in New Zealand for 12 months or more, you need to provide a letter explaining the reason why the import of your personal items lags behind your own arrival.
- Others: When your personal belongings arrive, you yourself must be in New Zealand. We suggest that you provide us with the date of your departure flight. We will arrange a suitable time for shipment based on your arrival date in New Zealand.
In addition, if the total amount of customs duties and value-added tax on imported goods does not exceed 60 New Zealand dollars, value-added tax, customs duties and other import taxes and fees are exempted.

- Goods Release Order: This is a document issued by the customs confirming that the goods have completed customs clearance procedures and allowing the consignor or their agent to take delivery of the goods. It indicates that the goods have passed customs inspection and comply with relevant regulations, and can enter the domestic circulation links in New Zealand.
- Tax payment vouchers: If customs duties, value-added tax or other taxes and fees need to be paid during the customs clearance process, the consignor will receive the corresponding tax payment vouchers, such as tax bills issued by the customs, to prove that the taxes and fees have been paid. However, if personal items are eligible for tax exemption, this will not apply.
- Quarantine treatment certificate (if applicable) : If certain items in personal belongings have undergone quarantine treatment by the New Zealand Department of Agriculture and Forestry Services, such as fumigation, there will be corresponding quarantine treatment certificate documents, proving that the items have been treated and meet the quarantine requirements of New Zealand.
In addition, documents such as bills of lading and packing lists have been submitted to the customs and other relevant departments during customs clearance. After the customs clearance is completed, these documents may be stamped with the customs release seal or other marks and returned to the consignor or their agent, serving as proof of the legal import of the goods and as the basis for subsequent logistics, warehousing and other links.
