The main immigration channels in Singapore include employment passes, investment immigration programs, and family reunification programs, etc. The following are the conditions and procedures for these immigration methods:
Employment Pass (EP)
- Application Requirements: There must be a job opportunity provided by a legally registered company in Singapore, with a monthly salary of at least 5,000 Singapore dollars. The salary requirement is higher for those with more experience. A certain educational background is required, usually at least a bachelor's degree. Those with experience in high-demand fields such as technology, finance, and information technology are more likely to be approved.
- Application Process: The application is made by the employer on behalf of the applicant. The applicant prepares personal information, academic certificates, employment contracts, etc. The employer submits documents such as the business license of the company. The Ministry of Manpower of Singapore reviews the application. The processing period is three to eight weeks. Holding an employment pass to work in Singapore, one can apply for permanent residency after meeting certain conditions. Generally, one is eligible to apply after holding the employment pass for two years.
Investment Immigration Program (GIP)
- Application Requirements: Invest at least 2.5 million Singapore dollars in Singapore to establish or expand a business, or invest in a government-approved fund; Have at least three years of entrepreneurial or business experience, with the company's annual revenue reaching a certain standard, and the average annual turnover in the past three years being over 50 million Singapore dollars. Submit a detailed business plan.
- Application Process: The applicant submits the application form and supporting documents. The Singapore Economic Development Board reviews the financial strength and the feasibility of the business plan. After the initial application is approved, the applicant goes to Singapore for an interview. If the interview is successful, a principle approval letter will be received. If the investment is completed within six months and supporting documents are provided, permanent residency can be obtained.
Family Reunion plan
- Application Requirements: Singapore citizens or PRS can apply for permanent residence status for their spouses. Singaporean citizens can apply for residence status for their parents, but permanent residents do not have this right. For unmarried children under the age of 21, both Singaporean citizens and permanent residents can apply for their settlement in Singapore.
- Application process: The application is submitted by a Singaporean citizen or PR on behalf of the applicant, providing materials such as birth certificates and marriage certificates that prove the kinship. The Singapore Immigration and Checkpoints Authority reviews the application, and the review process takes three to six months.

1. Customs regulations and restrictions
- Declaration obligation: All items carried must be truthfully declared, including cash, valuable items, controlled items, etc. Concealment or omission of declaration will result in serious legal consequences.
- Duty-free allowance: Singapore has a duty-free allowance for personal items carried. The allowance varies depending on the type of item and the passenger's status. Any excess is subject to tax. Before departure, you can check the official website of the Singapore Customs Department for the latest regulations.
- Controlled items: Certain drugs, foods, animal and plant products, counterfeits, etc. are subject to control. Carrying them into the country requires permission from relevant departments; otherwise, they will be confiscated or even face legal sanctions.
2. Documents and materials
- Passport and Visa: Ensure that your passport is valid and you have a legal visa to enter Singapore.
- List of items and invoices: Provide detailed lists and invoices, listing the name, quantity, value and other information of each item to facilitate the customs' understanding of the imported items.
- Customs Declaration Form: Fill out the declaration form provided by the Singapore Customs, detailing information such as the item, value and purpose.
3. Packaging and marking

4. Tax exemption policy
- Non-Singaporean citizens must hold at least one of the following documents:
a. Employment Pass (EP)
b. Dependent Pass (DP)

e. A Letter of Approval in Principle (IPA), issued by the Ministry of Manpower of Singapore, a government department of Singapore, stating the status of your application or providing proof of job offer.

- GST Exemption License: If the relevant conditions are met and a GST exemption is applied for and approved, a GST exemption license issued by the customs will be received. When picking up the goods, you need to show this permit and other supporting documents to the checkpoint officer for customs clearance.
- Customs declaration form receipt: After processing the declaration, the customs will return a declaration form receipt with the customs release seal, which proves that the batch of personal items has passed the customs inspection and is allowed to be released.
- Delivery note or delivery voucher: Related to the transportation company or freight forwarder, indicating that the consignor has the right to take delivery of the goods. It could be a sea waybill or an air delivery certificate, etc., depending on the mode of transportation.
